The project discussed here was born out of a work completed for Dr. Laura Engel’s summer 2019 course: Queer Theory and Performance Studies Studies, which I took as part of my Ph.D. coursework at Duquesne University. My final project for that class examined the queerness of the act of knitting, the knit object, and the fiber community. I started thinking about the queering of identity as a break from normal cultural practices. In that vein, my thoughts migrated to queering cultural discussions and perceptions of fertility, and infertility. So much of women’s labor, of their grief, is silent--experienced alone, often in shame. The digitization of this project seeks to speak to the silence, and to celebrate the voices, experiences, identities, labor of women.
